Suspended Motion

Anthony St. James

Suspended Motion is a contemporary sculpture comprised of found objects. I’m always looking for unusual shaped metals I can incorporate into my pieces. I bought this used bulldozer sprocket years earlier, hoping one day inspiration would strike. In this instance, I used the bulldozer sprocket, an antique tractor implement and a discarded industrial flange. I combined these together to make Suspended Motion.

Whenever I see a sprocket or gear, I automatically think of motion. When I placed the sprocket on its stand the thought of suspended motion came to mind.

Anthony St. James was born in Houston, Texas in 1958 and graduated from Alief Hastings high school in 1977. While attending Houston Community College I met an accomplished metal sculptor, this had an immediate and lasting impression on me. Having already taken welding classes in high school I soon began honing my metal skills and developing my own style. Sculpting would soon become my passion and I have been sculpting every since. My piece ” Remember when ” is currently on display at the Benini Sculpture Ranch in Johnson City Texas.
